Does anyone play? Myself and another eve bod just set up a guild on the brand spanking new 'Ceti' Server (opened today), Its rather good as everyone starts from the same point instead of getting dropped from a great height on an old server. Its an entertaining browser based spacey game (so you can play it at work. woot) for those of you that dont know it.
Anyway if you fancy joining us we are at http://ceti.astroempires.com/
You can find me as 'Tinrib' through the Messages -> Contacts page, or going to the guild page here

There are about 10,000 browser-based space games. Of them, I have only found three that were amusing for more than a few hours of gameplay (a few days of playing).
1. Ferion. Takes a lot of time up towards the end of an arena, and costs 5 euros to unlock the higher techs (you play for a few days, if you think you're in a good position to play out the arena, you pay the 5 euros). Its a really, really awesome game partially because it uses a real 2D map, its unforgiving, and diplomacy is extremely important. If you're willing to put in the time, it can be extremely fun. I've won a few arenas too
2. Galactic Conquest. Not as serious as Ferion; as long as you log in every few days to get some buffer planets, its not a must to log in every day or multiple times a day. Its fun for a while.
3. Ogame. Pretty addictive, but if you screw up and forget to fleetsave/etc, you can get screwed. Don't put all your eggs in one basket, uh, I mean fleet.
I must have played dozens and dozens of these things and I'm amazed how similar most of them are. Most just suck

I played Ogame for a while. AE is sorta like that but i have found it much more enjoyable. I had the whole fleet crash thing in Ogame and lost everything in one foul swoop. AE diplomacy reminds me of eve somewhat jsut with less smack ;)
