INTRODUCTION
Welcome to the Kingdom! One of the most wanted skills in the game is to be able to have a steady supply of meat and items to sustain your wants and needs throughout your game-play experience. As a “newb”, many players may feel that it is necessary to beg others for the meat and/or items they want. This is NOT necessary. This guide will help explain some simple and some more complex ways and ideas of making meat starting out from just joining the game. This guide will also cover the beginning of the meat making experience to playing the market and making millions. It will also help you learn how to go from one to the other as quickly as possible.
BEGINNING THE MEAT MAKING EXPERIENCE
The easiest way of making meat would be, of course, sending in a donation of $10 to the Kingdom of Loathing. Receiving your Mr. Accessory upon donation, you may be able to sell the Mr. accessory for approximately 4.5 million meat (Price of the Mr. Accessory during time which this guide was written). Though this may be the easiest way to make meat in the Kingdom, some players may have a hard time earning the money, or may be too young to get the money to donate for a Mr. Accessory. Here is some advice to begin earning meat if you can not donate for a Mr. Accessory. After you have received access to the Icy Peak in Mount McLargeHuge, it will be one of the most meat per adventure places in the Kingdom. To get the most out of your adventures at the Icy Peak is to wear the following: (The following are a list of items that are good for those with lower amounts of meat income.)
Extreme scarf
Penguin whip
Snowboarder pants
Extreme mittens
2 tiny plastic hermits
Familiar: Leprechaun with Meat detector (Equipment)
If you have a larger amount of meat income:
Extreme scarf
Penguin whip
Snowboarder pants
Extreme mittens
2 Jekyllin hide belt (or Mr. Accessory Jr.’s)
Familiar: Leprechaun with Lucky Tam O’ Shanter (Equipment)
Other places that have been said to be good farming spots is the moxie area in The Shore at the Beach. Some item drops there include some items worth 2 thousand meat each in mall.
PLAYING THE MARKET
If you have wondered how many players have made loads of meat, this section might help you. Playing the market is one of the main ways people have made there millions (maybe even billions) of meat. Well, how does playing the market work? Asking someone in channel trade might get you an answer like this: “Playing the market is buying low and selling high” or “Buying items that have a certain value to them then reselling them later when the item ‘skyrockets’ in value”. Playing the market can be both of those answers. Let us start out with connecting from farming the meat and turning it into some “playing the market meat”. After making approximately 300 thousand meat from farming you can now start playing the market. How can I play the market with only 300 thousand meat? Simple, start out with lower value items and work your way up. Some of these lower items you may want to start out with are the following: Hell ramen, Chow meins (Knob Sausage, Rat Appendix, Bat Wing), Spooky hockey mask, and boozes. Good booze markets may include Fuzzbumps, Roll in the hays, and other Disco Bandit drinks. You may also find working in the Disco Bandit drink ingredients useful as well. Now that you understand the different markets that you can seek making profit in, here is what you do with those items. Two ways may include buying the Disco Bandit drink and Chow mein/Hell ramens and selling them for more or buying the item ingredients and making the items from scratch. Buying the ingredients from scratch and then making the items may enable you to make 100 meat or more on each drink you sell in either channel trade or in your store. Getting the ingredients for a reasonable price may be a difficult challenge. One of the ways (though it may take time) to get the ingredients for a fair prices is by sitting and offering to buy them in channel trade. Once you have bought the items needed for the chow mein/disco bandit drink you are making, mix/cook the item in your inventory, then put them back in the mall for near mall price. Doing this will give you a profit once someone buys your product. (Profit depends on the price of the items). If you are using a bartender-in-the-box or chef-in-the-box you may want to include the prices of those when trying to make profit. Remember, if you have bulk of these items they are more likely to sell for more in the mall. Place your price of your bulk product near the bulk prices in the mall. If you would like 100% profit you will want to adventure for the item ingredients.
CONNECTING MEAT FARMING TO PLAYING THE MARKET CONTINUED…
Now for buying items for less then mall price and reselling for higher in the mall. As mentioned before, some of these items are Spooky Hockey Mask, and other lowered priced items. If it is a market you are not sure about, it would probably be best for you to avoid playing that market. When buying these items, you will want to offer lower than mall. The price you pay will want to include a profit margin and an area where you will not lose meat if the market is to fall somewhat during your market playing in that item. For example with the Spooky Hockey Mask if it is 200 thousand meat in the mall. If that is the price you may want to offer 150 to 170 thousand meat for it in channel trade. This will give you a 50 to 30 thousand profit margin and also a profit margin even if the market drops 10 thousand or so. There are also many other items you can work with to make a profit. As you gain more profit you may decide to work in other markets such as the following: Mr. Accessories, Bows, Hanukkimbo Dreidl, and other items.
FINDING AN ITEM FOR A LONG TERM INVESTMENT
Another way to make meat in-game is to work in long term investments. Though these items may take longer for you to make the profit, the profit may be a good amount. Some of the items that are USUALLY good for long term investments are Mr. Store Item/Familiars of the month, Crimbo items such as bows and Crimbo duds, and other items that you can not receive in the game anymore. Though some of these items are usually good investments, they may not always be the best. Here are some tips to choosing a good long term investment:
1. How many of the items are in circulation?
2. How saturated is the mall with the item?
3. Is the item useful for either ascension, meat farming, etc?
4. How high is the demand for the item you want to invest?
5. How many players are probably investing in this item?
6. What is the past market history on the item?
Description for tip 1: If there are many of the item in circulation it may not be the best item to invest. This is because the more there are the more that will be for sale which will lower the demand.
Description for tip 2: Before investing in the item, how many of the items are in the mall? If the mall is saturated with the item it will take longer for the item to rise in price, if at all.
Description for tip 3: One of the properties of an item that will determine how fast an invest will rise is the usefulness of the item. If the item has a good use more people will want the item which will cause the item to rise faster.
Description for tip 4: This tip is explained in different areas in description for tip 1, 2, and 3.
Description for tip 5: The more people investing in the item, the more of a chance the mall will get saturated with the item and the price will lower.
Description for tip 6: You may want to read about the market history on the item you are planning on investing. If the item has seemed to have a continual rise in price it will most likely be a good investment.
PLAYING THE RARE MARKET
Huge profits can be made for those who play the rare market. Some of these rare items include the Talisman of Baio, Incredibly Dense Meat Gem, and Hypnodisk. It is simple to understand rare items but you must understand in order to play the rare market that mall value is completely different from game value and the value in which players will buy the rare for. In order to make a profit on these rare(s) you must leave your self a large enough area between mall value and what you buy the item for. Since rare items do not commonly sell in the mall you may have to give yourself time to buy and resell the item in channel trade. Playing the rare market works mostly the same like other items such as the spooky hockey mask (as explained earlier), except there is a larger profit margin, but yet there is also a larger market fall margin. For example, Talisman of Baios may change in price from 75 to 95 million meat in one day. To make a profit you may want to check the market history and check how the market is either falling/rising so you can predict the outcome over the next few days you have to sell the item. One of the best ways to purchase a rare, such as a Talisman of Baio, is to say in channel trade that you are looking to buy the item. When someone private messages you that they have that item you may want to haggle. This can help enable the buyer and seller to get the best meat for the product as possible. Here is a description of haggling if you do not know what it means. Haggling is where one player offers high and the other low and you go back and forth until you find a price that is right for both of you. Keep in mind that this does not guarantee that you will find a buyer for the price you want. After purchasing a rare for the price in meat/items you want, it is now time for you to find a buyer for it. Finding a buyer might be the hardest part. Just advertise in channel trade that you are selling the rare. When someone private messages/kMails you just tell them the price you want for the item. Now just take position of the seller and haggle. You will need patience when playing the rare market. Here are some examples of what to buy a rare at when the mall value of that item is:
If mall value is 100 million meat you should pay 60 to 80 million meat.
If mall value is 80 million meat you should pay 60 to 70 million meat.
So on and so forth. Keep in mind that these are just some recommended prices. What you pay may be determined by how much patience you have and what deals you can find. Remember to keep an eye on the market value and to research the market history to make sure the market isn’t likely to have a dramatic meat fall in the mall.
PREVENTING YOURSELF FROM MEAT LOSS
In every market, including the lower priced chow mein and etc market, but more in the rare market have risks. One of the biggest risk to those seeking to make a profit off those items is having the market drop. Here are something precautions you can take before entering a market that is new to you. First, study to make sure the market is stabilized where it is at. If you know the market is stabilized the risk of the price on that market is most likely going to stay at that price and so you won’t have to worry about it. Second, if you are planning on entering a more risky market try to sell the items as soon as you can either in mall or channel trade. You also want to make sure that it is not a raised market you are working in. A raised market is one where a player(s) buys out the item at lower prices to make it look like the market is at a much higher value. And last but not least, use your common sense. If you don’t feel like a market is a good stable one, don’t take the risk of buying that item and having the market drop under for what you bought it for.
