-x-acto knife
-sharpie
-e-6000
-chalk
-matte mod podge/other kind of paint sealer
-sandpaper
-purple paint
-brown paint
-white paint
-thin craft foam

first thing: obtain a mask. i got this one on amazon, though i recommend buying one in a store so you can try it on (this one was a bit tight, possibly made for a child)
i cut the eye holes bigger with the x-acto (they were rather low on my face, probably bc it’s for a kid) and more round to match the character
i then began building up the mask’s pushed out eye sockets, as well as closing up the nose holes and where the factory’s strap was fit into (i did this while repeatedly holding the mask up to my face, making sure everything was lined up properly)
i waited for that to dry.
i marked where the split was going to be because i had forgotten to carve it out while the clay was still wet, so i did that the hard way with an x-acto.
i covered the whole mask in apoxie sculpt before carving out a split (while the clay was still wet, this time)
i waited 24hrs for the clay to dry (u don’t need to do 2 passes like i did, u can just do all the clay work in one go) and sanded it down as smooth as i could get it
i cut out 4 near identical squares for the brackets and glued them on with the e-6000 (would’ve used hot glue but the heat can warp thinner foams & i didn’t want it to be so obvious on the small squares)
i began coating the whole thing in acrylic gesso (i did about 2-3 coats)
now. i don’t have any more progress pictures as i streamed the rest of it on the phone i used to take the pictures, so i’ll do my best to explain.
i measured out the top and bottom pieces of elastic and marked how much of each strip would be glued to the inside of the mask with chalk. i glued the other ends to the inside of the magnetic clasps respectively. i set them aside to dry.
in the meantime i painted each color on the mask in watered down layers so it would turn out smoother. after it dried i glued the straps under their brackets and let that dry.
i still have yet to seal it bc i gotta borrow my pal’s spray sealer, so use whatever you like to keep the acrylic paint from chipping.
EDIT: i just sprayed it with some matte varnish :+1: beforehand i cut the top so it’d be flat like how it shows up in the achievement. plus this makes the whole mask less air-tight and more comfortable (especially if ur mask is real snug on ur face like mine is!)

EDIT P2!: u reeeeally don’t need to cover the whole mask in clay if u don’t want to. i made a second one without doing so (i just sculpted the eyes & filled in the nose) and it was perfectly fine & i could use less materials. if ur very very set on having the split be 3D/maybe u wanna change the nose’s shape or have more creative freedom, go ahead!
